Item 448, type 1, 703.07 C&MS
2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:
Cast-in-Place Concrete Curb and Combination Curb and Gutter:
Use approved steel forms for curbs. Approved flexible forms of steel or wood may be used to construct the radius of a circular curb 200 ft (60 m) or less. Before placement insure that the inner surface of the form is clean and has been coated with an form release agent. Class C Concrete conforming to Item 499 shall be used.
Refer to 609.04.B. for concrete placement requirements. For Slip-Form placement, use concrete of a consistency that provides the desired shape and remains as placed without slumping of the vertical faces. The finished surface should be uniform in texture.
Cure concrete according to Item 451. Apply curing membrane at a minimum rate of 1 gal per 200 square feet (1 L/5 m2) of surface.
Asphalt Concrete Curb:
Method A requires application of asphalt material conforming to 407.02 at a rate of 0.15 gallons per square yard (0.7 L/m2) to the curb area after completing the surface course.
Method B calls for placement and compaction of loose asphalt concrete of sufficient height and shape by hand or hand-operated mechanical methods preceding the final rolling of the asphalt concrete surface course.
Concrete Median and Traffic Island:
Approved flexible forms of steel or wood may be used to construct the radius of a circular curb 200 ft (60 m) or less. When medians and traffic islands are not anchored to the pavement contraction joints should be constructed at 10 ft. (3 m) intervals using implements in accordance with Item 451.
Sample is not required.
3. Method of Tests:
