661 Planting Trees, Shrubs, and Vines

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

Materials
Trees, shrubs, vines and plants and other materials must conform to the current edition defined by, "The American Standard for Nursery Stock" published by the American Nursery and Landscape Association found at:  https://www.anla.org/publications/index.cfm?

Only material that is approved as a Qualified Product may be used. To verify, refer to the “Qualified Product List (QPL) - Trees, Shrubs, Vines” on the OMM website:

Labeling
Legible labels shall be attached to all specimens, or boxes, bundles, and other containers, indicating detailed information covering the botanical genus and the species name, the common name, the size or age of each species or variety, and the quantity contained in
in the individual bundles, boxes, and bales.

Inspection
The Engineer will inspect all plants to ensure they are healthy, vigorous, and free from harmful defects, decay, disfigured stems and roots, plant diseases, and insect pests.  Plant material shall then be sealed until use or planting. (Field)

Location and source of supply
Completed and detailed information concerning the supply source for each plant material:

1. Each collector (927.51A ), dealer (927.51C) or nurseryperson (927.51 H), including a landscaper who sells, offers, or exposes for sale, or distributes nursery stock within this state shall be licensed (Section 927.53 A).

2.  No person shall sell, offer for sale, or remove or ship from a nursery or other premises, any nursery stock unless such stock has been officially inspected and a valid certificate has been issued (Section 927.61 B).

Final acceptance of all plant materials shall take place after the period of establishment stated in Item 661.17 C&MS. Inspection of planting materials for replacement shall take place on or about September 15 during this period. Inspection is documented by IOC for project files. (Field/District)
