705.12 C&MS

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

Qualified Product List (QPL)

Only material that is approved as a Qualified Product may be used. To verify, refer to Qualified Product List (QPL) on the OMM website

http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/ConstructionMgt/Materials/Pages/QPL.aspx

Materials are not sampled. Suppliers who are interested in approval of their products should follow the requirements defined for this product on the qualified products list website.

Liquid Admixtures:

(Note: these materials exhibit a high ph & can be irritants to skin and eyes)

Sampling of admixtures will be in conformance to S 1001. If the delivery system used by the concrete producer has no agitation the sample will be pulled at the same location as delivery into the concrete and will not be agitated Samples for quality assurance checks in conformance to S 1001 will be taken approximately every 180 days per Ready Mix plant, per product. Each sample shall have a volume of at least 1 qt. (0.9 L)

Samples should be pulled in the spring before concrete delivery to assure first concrete delivery uses adequate materials. The sampler should recommend to the ready mix company possible agitation of the tank if it has been sitting over the winter.

Non-Liquid Admixtures:

Samples shall represent not more than 2 Tons (2 metric tons) of admixture and shall weigh at least 2 lb(1kg). A minimum of four grab samples shall be taken.

Composite samples shall be prepared by thoroughly mixing the grab samples selected and the resultant mixture sampled to provide at least 5 lb (2.3 kg) for the composite sample. Grab samples shall be taken from different locations well distributed throughout the quantity to be represented.

Packaged admixtures shall be obtained by means of a tube sampled as described in practice C 183. Samples shall be packaged in moisture-proof, air-tight containers.

Quality Assurance Samples shall be submitted to the OMM Chemical Section accompanied by a TE-31. (Field)

Inspection Requirements:

Storage

Admixtures should be stored in such a manner as to permit easy access for proper identification, and in a suitable weather tight building that will protect the admixture from freezing. (Concrete Producer)

Materials not identified shall be rejected. (Field)

Packaging and Marking:

For packages or containers, the manufacturer, brand name, type of admixture and the net weight or volume shall be plainly marked thereon. (Field)

Packages or containers varying more than (5%) from the specified weight or volume shall be rejected; if the average weight or volume of (50) packages taken at random is less than that specified, the entire shipment shall be rejected, (Field)

For bulk shipments, similar information shall be provided on the shipping "invoices" accompanying packaged or bulk shipments. (Field)
