2. Sampling and / or Inspection

All wire rope rail, post connections and fittings shall be inspected after delivery to the project for dimensions, condition, and appearance. Dimensions shall comply with the Table in the section 4 Addendum (Field)

The wire shall be cylindrical in form, of uniform quality, and free of imperfections not consistent with good commercial practice.

One strand splice in any 50 foot length of rope is permitted.

Each wire of the rope shall have a continuous coating of Zinc, of a uniform thickness. The coating shall not crack or flake to such ans extent that any zinc can be removed by rubbing with bare fingers.

Hardware, nuts, bolts and washers shall be galvanized and give good appearance.

Dimensions of post connections shall comply with C&MS 710.09 requirements.

Wire rope must be shipped upon substantial wooden reels.

The reel shall be mountable so that it will revolve and the rope run off by pulling straight ahead.

the following information shall be plainly and indelibly marked on a tag firmly attached to the reel or be painted on the reel:


Nominal diameter.

Type of strand construction.

Weight of rope.

The name or trademark of the manufacturer.

A TE-31 Field Inspection Report shall be completed following the inspection of each shipment. A 6 ft. sample of material shall be accompanied by the completed TE-31 and sent to OMM. (Field)

Rope is to be right regular lay.

Lay of strand is the distance from a point on a strand, measured along the axis of the rope, to a similar point in the same position of the same strand after on revolution of the strand in the rope.

Lay of wire in the strand is the distance form a point on wire measured along the axis of the strand, to a similar position of the wire in the strand after one complete revolution.

Right regular lay. The wires in the strand are laid to the left and each strand is laid to the right.
