|710.11 Fence Posts and Braces|
Certification - Supplement 1072, Supplement 1067
Wood posts shall be produced by a certified plant as per Supplement 1072, Certification Procedure for Pressure Treated Lumber. See Items 710.12 and 710.14, this Manual. Steel line posts shall be produced by a certified plant as per Supplement 1067, 607 Fence Certification Program. A list of certified lumber and steel line posts suppliers is available at the OMM website
2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:
Certified materials should arrive on a TE-24. The certified supplier's bill of lading detailing the materials delivered in that shipment should be attached to the TE-24 document. If the material fulfills the requirements it may be used immediately. If the material does not fulfill the requirements, it shall be rejected. Notify the OMM.
Galvanizing shall comply with requirements of the Addendum in section 4.
3. Methods of Tests:
ASTM A116, A90. (OMM)
Steel Posts shall have the following dimensions, weight and appearance:
Appearance: Shape shall be V, Y, T or channel: Shall have corrugations, knobs, notches or studs to engage line wires in proper positions.
Anchors: Each post shall have a tapered anchor weighing 0.67 pounds or more. Anchors shall be fastened by welding, riveting or clamping.
Weight: Posts shall weigh 1.33 lbs. per linear foot, exclusive of anchor, ± 3.50%.
Length: Posts shall have + 2 in. and - 1 in. tolerance in length.
Fasteners: Fasteners for attaching fence to posts shall be furnished with the Posts, be galvanized and 0.120" in diameter.
Coating: Galvanized coating thickness shall be checked with a Magnetic Thickness Gauge. See 711.02 Addendum for coating thickness.
