Certification - Supplement 1042
Steel Guard Rail Posts shall be produced by a certified supplier as per Supplement 1042. A list of certified suppliers is available at the OMM website
2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:
The certified supplier's bill of lading detailing the materials delivered in that shipment should be attached to the TE-24 document.
Guard rail posts shall be inspected after delivery to the project for dimensions, weight, appearance of coating and condition. Dimensions shall comply with the Addendum in section 4. Cross section and weight of the post shall be as specified in the Standard Drawing, Proposal or Plan. (Field)
Galvanizing checks should conform with requirements of the 711.02 Addendum . Zinc coating shall be smooth and the base metal shall be without bare spots. The coating shall be free of blisters, flux spots or inclusions, dross and acid or black spots. Coating shall be adherent so it will not be removed by any reasonable process of handling or erection. Lumps, globules, or any deposits of zinc which will interfere with the intended use of the material will not be permitted.
Adherence of the zinc coating to the surface of the base metal will be determined by cutting or prying with the point of a stout knife, applied with considerable pressure in a manner intended to remove a portion of the coating. The adherence shall be considered inadequate if the coating flakes off in the form of a layer or skin to expose the base metal. Testing should not be carried out at edges or corners.
