740.06 Work Zone Pavement Marking

1. Specification:

Item 740.06 C & MS. Type 1: removable
Item 740.06 C & MS, Type 2: non-removable.

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

Materials intended for the project or purchase order shall be inspected upon receipt of shipment for condition, fabrication, workmanship and quantity. Material as supplied shall have a minimum shelf life of one year from date of purchase when stored at temperatures between 50 to 100 F (38 C). Check when the material was produced. If greater than one year require the contractor to supply documentation of the storage methods used or reject material. Material exhibiting premature adhesion or transfer of the adhesive upon unrolling, adhesive contamination or adhesive non-uniformity such lumps or bare spots shall be rejected. (Field).

Material is delivered in containers with the markings stenciled or stamped exhibiting the dimensions of the roll or legend type, product name and code number, batch or lot number, color and manufacturer's name and location. The marking material shall be a weather and traffic resistant reflective film coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive with or without a protective liner. Markings missing, altered or placed by hand shall be cause for rejection.

The dimensions of the material as supplied shall be free of cracks, and have edges true, straight and unbroken. Roll stock: there shall be no more than three splices per 150 ft (45.7 m). Legends: the prefabricated legends and symbols must conform to applicable shapes and sizes as outlined in Standard Construction Drawing TC 71.10

The material shall be flexible and formable and shall conform to the typical road pavement surface.

Immediately following application, the material shall not require a cure or set time prior to opening to traffic.

If the material fulfills the requirements it may be used immediately. If the material does not fulfill the requirements, it shall be rejected. Documentation for use as temporary material should be maintained in project file.
