709.11 Deformed Steel Wire for Concrete Reinforcement

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

Cold-Drawn Steel Wire or Deformed Steel Wire for Concrete Reinforcement shall be inspected after it is delivered to the project for size or weight and condition. Wire received as steel wire fabric shall be inspected as instructed in 709.10 and 709.12 of this Manual. (Field)

Cold-drawn steel wire 709.08 size is determined by diameter of the wire. Size number and corresponding nominal diameter are shown in the 709.08, 709.11 section 4. Permissible variation in a diameter shall be in compliance with the tolerance table in the section 4. Deformed steel wire 709.11 size is determined by a unit weight check in accordance with the table in the section 4.

The wire shall be free from injurious defects and shall have a workmanlike finish.

Rust, surface seams, or surface irregularities on wire shall not be cause for rejection provided minimum dimensions and physical properties of a hand wire-brushed test specimen are not less than the requirements of the specification.

Certification:

Supplement 1068 defines certification requirements for acceptance of reinforcing steel, welded wire mesh, dowel bars and mechanical reinforcing steel splice (RWWS) materials meeting ODOT specifications, 509.08 and 709.00 through 709.14.

The Department will only accept products from Manufacturers certified under this supplement.

The manufacturer will ship products using the Department's Virtual Warehouse (TE-24) system. When shipping RWWS materials, the Manufacturer will include a Bill of Lading with the Shipping Notice. Report to OMM any missing documentation and the company who shipped the materials.

No sample is required. The project may sample any materials they question. Provide sample and copy of documentation to laboratory.
