707.05, 707.07 Bituminous Coated Corrugated Steel Pipe and Arches

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

All pipe and coupling bands shall be inspected after delivery to the project for condition, coating, workmanship and quantity. Dimensions shall be checked against the pertinent Tables of the 707.01, 707.02 Addendum. Uncoated pipe meets 707.01 or 707.02. Seam fabrication requirements shall also be checked in accordance with this Addendum. (Field)

Individual pieces may be rejected for the following items of faulty workmanship:

Uneven laps

Elliptical shaping

Variation from straight centerline

Ragged or diagonal sheared edges

Loose, unevenly lined or spaced rivets or spot welds

Poorly formed rivet heads or improperly constructed lock seams

Improperly cut or badly burred ends

Lack of rigidity

Improper coating - See addendum below

Dents or bends in the metal

Inadequate, improperly applied, cracked or loose asphalt coatings

Markings may not be visible due to being covered by coating

Certification Program:

Certified materials will be shipped using the TE-24 electronic documentation system. A bill of lading defining individual components incorporated in the construction item shall accompany the shipment in addition to a copy of the TE-24.

No samples are required of materials delivered to the project site. Random samples may be obtained by ODOT/OMM Quality Assurance Inspectors at the discretion of the Office of Materials Management (OMM).

Asphalt Coating:

Type B Half coated paved invert pipe:

An asphalt coating of 50 mils (1.3 mm) for the bottom of the pipe's circumference. The paved invert is acceptable if no all corrugations are filled for at least 25% of the pipe's circumference [40% if an arch pipe]

Type C Full coated paved invert pipe:

An asphalt coating of 50 mils (1.3 mm) for the pipe's circumference. The paved invert is acceptable if no all corrugations are filled for at least 25% of the pipe's circumference [40% if an arch pipe]

Type D Full coated 100% paved invert pipe:

An asphalt coating of 50 mils (1.3 mm) for the pipe's circumference. The paved invert is acceptable no corrugations can be seen in the inside of the pipe and the asphalt is at least 1/8" [3.2 mm] thick above any corrugation crest.
