2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:
All plates and/or hardware shall be inspected after delivery to the project for size, condition, coating, workmanship, gauge and quantity. Plate thickness shall be checked against the Table in section 4 Addendum. Hardware items and fabrication requirements shall be inspected for conformance with the requirements of the Addendum. Fabrication drawings should be part of the shipment.
If the shipment fails to meet inspection requirements, the entire shipment may be rejected.
Individual pieces may be rejected for the following items of faulty workmanship:
Ragged or diagonal sheared edges
Dents or bends in the metal
Improperly aligned bolt holes
The plate manufacturer
The alloy or temper
Specified plate thickness
Date of fabrication
AASHTO spec number
Markings should appear inside after erection

Certified materials will be shipped using the TE-24 electronic documentation system. A bill of lading defining individual components incorporated in the construction item shall accompany the shipment in addition to a copy of the TE-24. Fabrication/erection drawings should be part of the shipment.
No samples are required of materials delivered to the project site. Random samples may be obtained by ODOT/OMM Quality Assurance Inspectors at the discretion of the Office of Materials Management (OMM).

Fabrication - Structural plates furnished shall be fabricated from flat corrugated sheets or plates, punched for bolted lap seams curved to the required radius.
Corrugation - The corrugation shall have a pitch of 9 ± 5/16 inches (230 ± 8 mm) and a depth of 2 ½ ± 1/8 inches (64 ± 4 mm).
Bolt Holes - The bolt holes shall be punched so that all plates having like dimensions, curvature, and same number of bolts per foot of seam shall be interchangeable. Longitudinal seams shall have holes for four bolts per corrugation, with two holes in each valley and two holes in each crest, with the holes placed 1 3/4 in. (45 mm) apart. Circumferential seams in the finished product shall provide for a bolt spacing of not more than 10 inches (250 mm). The diameter of the bolt holes in the longitudinal seams shall not exceed the bolt diameter by more than 1/8" (3 mm) except those at the plate corners. Bolt holes in circumferential seams, including plate corners, may be slotted with a width equal to the bolt diameter plus 3/8" (10 mm). The minimum distance from the center of a hole to the edge of a plate shall be 1 3/4 times the diameter of the bolt.
Special Plates - Plates for forming skewed ends, beveled ends or deflections of structures shall be accurately cut to fit the order plans. Cut edges of plates shall be free from notches, gouges and shall present a workmanlike finish. Legible identification shall be placed on each plate part to designate its proper position in the finished structure and referenced to the approved erection drawings.
Extrusions - Extrusions for longitudinal or circumferential structural reinforcing, if required, shall be as sized and located on the order plans, and fabricated from aluminum alloy 6061-T6. Extrusions for receiving angle on arches or other less critical structural members, if required, shall be as sized and located on the order plans, and shall be fabricated from aluminum alloy 6061-T6 or 6063-T6.
Zinc Coated Steel Fasteners - All bolts and nuts are normally 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter and meet the provisions of F 568 Class 4.6 and ASTM A-563 Grade A, respectively. The bolts and nuts may be a different size. See the approved design plans. Bolts and nuts shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with the requirements of AASHTO M-232 or may be mechanically galvanized to provide the same requirements as AASHTO M-232.
Note 1-Use of zinc coated bolts and nuts with aluminum plates may cause galvanic corrosion of the aluminum.
Aluminum Coated Steel Fasteners - Aluminum coated steel fasteners shall meet the requirements for Assembly Fasteners, except they shall have an aluminum coating meeting the provisions of ASTM A-676 Type A, Grade 1 or 2.
Aluminum Fasteners - All bolts shall be 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter meeting the provisions of ASTM F468M alloy 6061-T6. Aluminum nuts shall also meet ASTM F467M alloy 6061-T6.
