707.42 Polyvinyl Chloride Corrugated Smooth Interior Pipe

1. Specification:

707.42 C&MS.

2. Sampling and/or Inspection Requirements:

Inspect material delivered to the site for dimensions and condition. The nominal inside diameter shall be 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 and 36 inches. The pipe shall be free from visible defects. If shall not exhibit cracking or splitting. (Field)

Pipe damaged by crushing or stretching shall not be used.

The pipe shall be marked at intervals of no more than 5 feet. Markings shall include:

Manufacturer's name

Nominal size

Material designation (cell classification) (for example 12454C or 12364C)

Specification (M304 or F949)

Date of manufacture, and plant designation.

Fittings shall be marked with manufacturer's name, nominal size, material and cell designation Specification number.

Material may be shipped using the Department's Virtual Warehouse (TE-24) system or may be accepted in the field with certified test data.. If shipped by TE-24 and the material fulfills the requirements, it may be used immediately. The Producer/Supplier shall furnish manufacturer's certification and report of test results if not shipped by TE-24. Field/District review of test data should be the basis for acceptance of pipe shipped with certification.

Certified Test data requirements for ASTM F949 pipe include:

Pipe Stiffness: 46 lbf/in/in

Pipe Flattening: No splitting, cracking or breaking

Impact Strength:

nominal inside pipe diameter strength

4 inches 60 ft-lbf
6 - 8 inches 80 ft-lbf
10 inches 100 ft-lbf
12 - 36 inches 140 ft-lbf

Certified Test data requirements for AASHTO M304 pipe include:

Pipe Flattening: No splitting, cracking or breaking

Pipe Stiffness:

nominal inside diameter stiffness

less than 12 inches 318 kpa
15 inches 262 kpa
18 inches 221 kpa
21 inches 193 kpa
24 inches 165 kpa
27 inches 152 kpa
30 inches 131 kpa
36 inches 110 kpa

Impact Strength:

If the material does not fulfill the requirements, it shall be rejected. If no certified test data reject the material and return to supplier/contractor.
