  STBOM

STBOM (STandard Bill Of Materials)
The Department uses a computerized system that has a built in standard bill of material. The STBOM is a baseline breakdown of the Department’s construction bid items into the individual material types that are required.

As seen in this example below, the STBOM lists the:

1. CONSTRUCTION BID ITEM CODE (Item Cd: 606E13010)
2. Specificiation Year (2013)

3. Item Indicator (English)

4. UNIT OF MATERIAL (FT, EACH, EACH)
5. CONSTRUCTION BID ITEM DESCRIPTION (1)
6. CONSTRUCTION BID ITEM DESCRIPTION (2)
7. MATERIAL CODES FOR THE BID ITEM (550RAIL, 550MHMISC, 550SPOST)
8. MATERIAL NAME (RAIL ELEMENT, GUARDRAIL HARDWARE, STEEL POST)
9. CONVERSION FACTOR = (1.000000)

10. APPROVED SOURCE REQUIRED (x)
11. SPECIAL INSTRUCTION

P = PRIMARY MATERIAL TO BE CONTROLLED AND TRACKED
C = COMPONENT MATERIALS THAT WILL BE REQUIRED

(IMPORTANT FOR PRIMARY UNIT P. = THIS IS A MULTIPLIER APPLIED TO THE CONSTRUCTION QUANTITY BID TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF MATERIAL ITEM NEEDED TO MEET THE CONSTRUCTION ITEM QUANTITY)

To control materials acceptance A Project Bill of Material (PBOM) needs to be created from the STBOM information.

Construction Item Quantity Bid and Material Quantity Required for the Construction Item.

After you have created the project’s PBOM you need to check it’s accuracy and assure that the material types listed cover everything that is needed for each of your construction bid items.

1. Special bid items do not have STBOM. You will have to create your own PBOM for those items.
2. Construction Items that are “AS PER PLAN” may have special or unique materials you will need to track and control
3. You may want to eliminate material codes as you go through the materials control process.

a.    An example is many 603 items in the STBOM list many different pipe material types but a contractor will likely only be supplying one pipe type for the individual construction bid item.
