About
The mission of the Geometrics section is to provide technical assistance on geometric design features (superelevation, horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection design, interchange design). We accomplish our mission by assisting the district personnel, other governmental agencies and consultants in applying the geometric criteria.
Design Exceptions
A design exception is the formal documentation of the justification to deviate from the established design criteria. The controlling criteria which requires a design exception are lane width, shoulder width, bridge width, structural capacity, horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, grade, stopping sight distance, cross slope, superelevation, vertical clearance and horizontal clearance. Design exceptions should be submitted prior Stage 1 submission. The format for the design exception can be found in the L&D manual Volume 1 section 105.5.1.
Geometric Review
This section performs geometric review of construction plans required by the Project Development Process (PDP) for conformance with the ODOT design standards of the Location and Design Manual, Volume 1. This section also provides geometric review quality assurance reviews for the Districts and provides geometric review training for the Districts.
