Bridge Rating & Superload
Our mission is to serve the people of Ohio by analyzing the bridges to calculate their safe load carrying capacities, advising on hauling of Superloads (120,000 pounds and above) and providing support to implement new technology to the load rating and Superload analyses.
Our customers include ODOT offices, counties, cities, consultants, FHWA, researchers and universities. We are dedicated to providing a high level of technical and professional services.
The primary goals of the Structure Rating Section as included in the Office of Structural Engineering measurable are as follows.
1. Maintain three-four working days of turn-around on Superloads
2. Maintain the turn-around time of consultants’ load rating report reviews short & reasonable
3. Load rate the ODOT inspected or maintained bridges and update their data files
4. Update current data files to new field conditions and current specs
At present ODOT Bridge Rating and Superload group in Central Office has four full time engineers and a supervisor who are performing structural analyses & bridge load ratings, reviewing Superload permit requests, participating in research activities, development & testing of new rating products, developing and maintaining guidelines in Section 900 of the Bridge Design Manual (BDM) and providing support to the districts, counties, and consultants.
