The primary goals of the Structure Rating Section as included in the Office of Structural Engineering measurable are as follows.
1. Maintain three-four working days of turn-around on Superloads
2. Maintain the turn-around time of consultants’ load rating report reviews short & reasonable
3. Load rate the ODOT inspected or maintained bridges and update their data files
4. Update current data files to new field conditions and current specs
At present ODOT Bridge Rating and Superload group in Central Office has three full time engineers and a supervisor who are performing structural analyses & bridge load ratings, reviewing Superload permit requests, participating in research activities, development & testing of new rating products, developing and maintaining guidelines in Section 900 of the Bridge Design Manual (BDM) and providing support to the districts, counties, and consultants.
Preferred Computer Programs for Load Rating
For ODOT inspected or maintained bridges, preferred computer programs for load rating have been stated in the BDM 2004, Section 900. Starting October 1, 2013, ODOT will not accept any bridge load ratings done using BARS-PC program.
For non-ODOT bridges, the responsible agency/owner of the bridge may decide which computer program to use.
For AASHTO Br-Rating (formerly Virtis), Br-Design (formerly Opis) and Bentley LARS Bridge programs, both AASHTO and Bentley have agreed to offer a special annual license fee of $2,700.00 for a single workstation license of each program to the counties, municipalities & consultants in Ohio. AASHTOWare and Bentley programs obtained through special pricing can only be used for the bridges in Ohio.
A reference Email may be requested from ODOT which will make an agency eligible for the special pricing. Please Email your request to Amjad Waheed, PE, with your company’s complete address and phone number and a brief list of the bridges, which would be designed or rated by the program.
Please contact AASHTO, Bentley or WYDOT directly to obtain the programs and the license to use AASHTOWare, LARS or BRASS programs, respectively.
