Gateway Landscaping Program

"Every exit is an entrance somewhere else" - Tom Stoppard

 About the Program...

ODOT is sowing the seeds of pride in communities around the state, through the Gateway Landscaping Program.  This program, funded by Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds, has set aside funds for highway landscaping in Ohio communities.  The program provides aesthetically appealing corridors leading into Ohio's cities and villages.

 What the Program Provides...

The program provides funding for the purchase of trees, shrubs, mulch, soil amendments and other landscaping materials to establish corridor enhancements along state highway rights-of-way.  Plants and landscaping materials are the only eligible costs funded by the program.  Labor, equipment rental, landscape design cost, and other maintenance costs will not be funded.

 Local Governments Must Provide...

Local governments must agree to provide litter removal, landscaping installation and maintenance, and general aesthetic improvements to the state highway right-of-way. Proposed landscaping plans must be in compliance with ODOT's Roadside Safety Guidelines and the Traffic Engineering Manual, Section 210-3.

 Everyone Wins!

This program allows local governments and civic groups to beautify the highway gateways into their communities, and at the same time, allows ODOT to concentrate efforts on highway repairs. The program creates a partnership where everyone wins!
