Performance Measures

Freeway Ops BC Report - FY2017.png

Moving traffic safely and reliably requires analyzing the impact of each investment and every program. Through data analysis and tracking performance measures ODOT is better equipped to make the roadway system work more effectively.  ODOT uses multiple data sets such as speed, incident, and weather to analyze the effectiveness of our traffic management programs and system as a whole. From the resulting reports, the best strategies can be implemented to improve the roadway network and achieve our goal of safely moving people and goods from place to place.

 Travel Time Reliability

ODOT’s Travel Time Reliability Index (TTRI) measure indicates how often motorists can travel at free flow speeds along ODOT’s freeways and expressways. TTRI is one of ODOT's Critical Success Factors.

 Roadway Clearance

Roadway clearance is measured as the time from the beginning of an incident until all lanes of the roadway are cleared. It is one of three measures developed to enhance the effectiveness of Traffic Incident Management (TIM) programs nationwide.

 Statewide TMC Report

ODOT's Statewide Traffic Management Center (TMC) operates multiple programs to help facilitate the easy movement of people and goods. This report displays annual stats on incidents and communication managed by the TMC.

 Snow & Ice Recovery

The Snow & Ice measure evaluates the impact of snow storms and ODOT's maintenance efforts on the traveling public. The goal is to return traffic speeds to normal as quickly as possible. The snow and ice evaluator is one of ODOT's Critical Success Factors.

 Secondary Crashes

Secondary Crashes are measured as the number of crashes that occur as a result of a previous crash or incident. It is one of three measures developed to enhance the effectiveness of Traffic Incident Management (TIM) programs nationwide.

 Service Patrol Report

ODOT offers the Freeway Service Patrol as a good samaritan program to assist stranded motorists on Ohio’s interstates.
This monthly report indicates the number of responses, response types, and responses by region in addition to other stats.
