Ferry Boat Program
Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) established the Ferry Boat Program and distributes funding to eligible entities based on the number of passengers carried, vehicles carried and total route miles. Funding of the Federal Ferry Boat program is by contract authority from the Highway Trust Account of the Highway Trust Fund, to remain available until expended. Funds are subject to the overall Federal-aid obligation limitation. These funds are sub allocated to specified ferry systems, and funds allocated under this program may be used only for the specified ferry operations.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is responsible for the development, implementation and the administration of the Ferry Boat Program. This includes the development of the program guidance, eligibility determination and the application process. Please review ODOT’s Ferry Boat Guidance

Ferry Boat Application
Ferry Boat Operators may apply for funding by completing the online Ferry Boat Application. All applications will be reviewed by a committee to determine the project's eligibility for funding. Applicants will be notified of determination.
