 Program Overview

 

The Ohio Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration has developed the Municipal Bridge Program in a concerted effort to eliminate local bridge deficiencies. This program provides federal funds to municipalities and Regional Transit Authorities for rehabilitation or replacement projects both on and off the Federal-Aid Highway system. 


 The Department allocates approximately $8m per year to this program, with an individual project cap of $2.5m. Awarded funds may be used for construction and construction engineering / inspection only. Design costs are not eligible for funding in this program.
Applications will be reviewed on a criteria-based project selection process by a committee comprised of ODOT District and Central Office representatives.

 

 

 Eligibility Criteria

 

To be eligible for this program, bridges must have a Municipal owner and meet the following criteria:

  • Meet the Federal Definition of a bridge (length of at least 20 feet)
  • Be listed on the NBIS
  • Carry vehicular traffic
  • Be structurally deficient or functionally obsolete
  • Have a General Appraisal rating ≤ 5
  • Have a Sufficiency rating <80

Applications must be received no later than March 1, 2014, for projects to be built in state fiscal years 2017 and 2018.
