 Program Overview

 

The Ohio Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration has developed the Small City Program in a concerted effort to eliminate deficiencies on existing transportation facilities. This program provides federal funds for any roadway or safety related project, to small cities that are NOT located within Metropolitan Planning Organizations' boundaries. Currently there are 54 Small Cities that meet this program’s criteria. A complete listing of the eligible cities that meet the programs criteria can be found on the Local Programs website.


 
The Department allocates approximately $8m per year to this program. Awarded funds may be used for construction and construction engineering / inspection only. Design costs are not eligible for funding in this program.

 
Applications will be reviewed on a criteria-based project selection process by a committee comprised of ODOT District and Central Office representatives.

 

 

 Eligibility Criteria

 

​To be eligible for this program, proposed projects must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be on a federal-aid route
  • Populations from 5,000 to 24,999

Applications must be received no later than March 1, 2014, for projects to be built in state fiscal years 2016 and 2017.
