Apply for Funding...

Ohio makes $4 million available each year to assist communities in improving safety for students to walk or bicycle to school. Funding is available for a variety of activities including Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement Evaluation and Equity.
Prior to requesting infrastructure or non-infrastructure funds, communities are required to develop a school travel plan that address the most effective strategies to improve safety in those communities. Additionally, communities may utilize priority projects identified in an Active Transportation Plan (or equivalent plan) that enable K-8 students to walk or bike to school safely within two miles of school.

Projects are competitively selected based on percentage of students expected to benefit, crash rate, economic status and delivery of past projects.

Please click on Develop Your SRTS Program in the right-column menu to learn more about how to get started. Planning assistance may be available - contact your district SRTS coordinator for more information.

Infrastructure Application Tips:

Review ODOT approved School Travel Plan, Active Transportation  Plan, or equivalent plan for countermeasures that most impact connectivity, safety, equity, trips, and are supported and prioritized by the community!

Work with your ODOT District SRTS Coordinator to assure the community and ODOT are in agreement with proposed countermeasure.

Obtain  a certified cost proposal. Cost overruns will be the responsibility of the applicant
