Incorporating Health into Infrastructure Planning

When the County of San Diego adopted its comprehensive wellness strategy, it committed to removing barriers to healthy living, including those in the built environment. Its Department of Public Works is developing a health-centric Pedestrian Master Plan – a proactive approach to identify and rank sidewalk issues – those in need of repairs and those missing. It also will be quantifying the health and socioeconomic improvements in the community resulting from items implemented in the plan.
