ODOT's research program is responsive to agency opportunities, needs and interests. Successful research projects require commitment and engagement both from the researcher and the technical advisory committee (TAC) members. Project ideas are submitted by the ODOT and Ohio local agencies, for strategic and ORIL respectively.
 
ODOT's research program is responsive to agency opportunities, needs and interests. Successful research projects require commitment and engagement both from the researcher and the technical advisory committee (TAC) members. Project ideas are submitted by the ODOT and Ohio local agencies, for strategic and ORIL respectively.
The two core methods through which project ideas can be developed are:
Strategic Research Plan Projects represent the ideas of departmental staff designed to address areas of interest identified in ODOT's strategic research plan.​
 
Ohio's Research Initiative for Locals (ORIL) provides research support for local agencies to address problems specific to the local roadway system.
