The DESTAPE is a roadway description file. It contains physical features along the roadway such as intersections, corporation lines, bridges and mileposts. Its original purpose and probably still greatest use is for the location of accidents. It originated back in the 1970’s with the Department of Public Safety and has been part of Roadway Information since about 1997.
