Eight Grade Crossings In Delphos Get $1.2-Million Safety Upgrade

ORDC & Railroad Combine Resources to Create Safer Crossings for Motorists & Pedestrians

Columbus (Monday, April 26, 2010) – Crossing the tracks in Delphos, Ohio will become a safer journey for drivers and pedestrians by this Fall.  A $1.2-million dollars project to install new lights and gates at eight grade crossings along the Chicago, Fort Wayne & Eastern Railroad (Rail America) right of way will begin in June.

The project is a partnership between the Ohio Rail Development Commission, Rail America, and the City of Delphos. A combination of federal stimulus funds, ORDC and railroad funds is enabling the project.

The grade crossings involved in the project are:

·       South Pierce Street

·       State Route 66/ South Main Street

·       Bredick Street

·       State Route 697

·       Clay Street

·       Jefferson Street

·       South Canal Street

Construction bids were solicited earlier this year and the job awarded to RailWorks Signal and Communication, Inc. in March.  The railroad estimates construction will be completed by October 1^st.

The Ohio Rail Development Commission is a state commission whose mission is to plan, promote, and implement the improved movement of goods and people faster and safer on a rail transportation network connecting Ohio to the nation and the world.   The ORDC assists with economic development funding by partnering with local governments, railroads, private businesses and other state agencies on freight, safety and passenger projects.
