3C “Quick Start” Passenger Rail Plan

 Ohio's Federal Stimulus Application

3C is Me!
Expand Passenger Rail in Ohio.

With Ohio’s 3C “Quick Start” Passenger Rail Service, more than 60% of Ohio’s population will have increased travel options as early as 2011.

Trains, operating at up to 79 miles per hour in 2011 and up to 110 miles per hour in the future, will connect Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, generating jobs and economic development along the way.

The service will be safe, efficient and cost effective, connecting Ohio to the nationally-prioritized Chicago Hub Network – all using federal stimulus dollars.

 Draft Amtrak Study

Amtrak has produced a draft ridership and revenue study, following more than nine months of research and analysis by the nation’s largest passenger rail service provider. Ohio will include information from this study as part of Ohio’s application for federal stimulus funding to be filed October 2nd.

DMU Preferred For 3C Passenger Rail

DMU Railcar Photo

Riding the 3C could be high-tech, self-propelled, and cost-effective. Check out the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU). Unlike conventional trains with a locomotive to pull the passenger cars, DMUs combine the two, making each railcar self-propelled and more fuel-efficient. ODOT and ORDC are studying if DMUs will work here. View the presentation from November 19, 2009 on EQUIPMENT: Locomotive Hauled vs. Diesel Multiple Units for more details.

US DOT to review High-Speed Passenger Rail Extension from Cleveland to Pittsburgh

In response to requests by officials in Ohio and Pennsylvania, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will review the feasibility of extending the nation’s designated high-speed passenger rail corridors to include the connection between Cleveland to Pittsburgh.
