Lance Porter

Lance Porter, a junior a The Ohio State University majoring in City and Regional Planning, began his internship with the Division of Jobs & Commerce June 27, 2016. This is his story:

What skills have you gained from working at ODOT?

I’ve learned how to carry myself in a professional environment and how different divisions of government work together.

What is the most surprising thing you've learned about ODOT?

Honestly, just how big ODOT is. I wasn’t aware of how many people worked here until I started.

How have your educational experiences helped you here at ODOT?

It hasn't really. I think working at ODOT has provided more real world experience than I would receive in a classroom.

How have your experiences here at ODOT helped with your education?

ODOT sometimes makes class frustrating because you may be learning about something in class that you’ve already been exposed to because of ODOT.

What are your goals after graduation?

I plan to stay in Columbus for a few years, and then move to San Francisco.

What do you like to to in your spare time?

Skateboard. Spend time in nature. Deejay events. Make music, paint and spend time with my cats.
