Accommodation Line

Do you think you need to go out West to relive America’s stagecoach era? Well, you don’t!

The Accommodation Line Scenic Byway traces a portion of the original route used by the Accommodation Line stagecoach which operated right here in Ohio (!) between Springfield and Cincinnati in the 1820s and '30s. The line was established by Colonel Billy Werden of Springfield and John Satterwaite of Waynesville to carry passengers and goods between the National Road in Springfield and the Ohio River port in Cincinnati. The stage route passed through the towns of Clifton, Xenia, Transylvania, Mount Holly, Waynesville, Lebanon, Palmira (now Mason) and Sharonville. Mr. Satterwaite's home, known as Halfway House, is in Waynesville.

The byway is a 10.4 mile route. It begins at its southern end at SR 73 and Main Street, at the southern edge of the village of Waynesville in Warren County. It follows Main Street through Waynesville to US 42 and continues north on US 42 along the Little Miami River to Spring Valley Road, at the northeastern edge of the village of Spring Valley in Greene County.
