HAN US 68-13.75, PID 101970 - Noise Wall
In the summer of 2015, a group of residents within the City of Findlay reached out to ODOT to express interest in reducing highway-related noise levels in their community through the construction of a noise wall. The residents live in the area east of U.S Route 68/Ohio 15 from the Western Avenue crossover northward to West Lake Court, near the Lake Cascades area. A map of this area can be found in the documents area farther down on this page.
As a result of the request for the noise wall, ODOT completed a noise analysis in August 2015 to determine if the noise levels in this area exceed thresholds set by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The analysis was also conducted to verify the community existed prior to the expansion of U.S. Route 68/Ohio 15 from a two-lane to a four-lane highway. The noise analysis report can be found in the documents area farther down on this page.
The noise analysis confirmed the community existed prior to the expansion of the highway, and indicated at least 20 homes in the community are experiencing noise levels exceeding thresholds set by FHWA. Additionally, the report confirmed a noise wall along Western Avenue would be a feasible and reasonable noise abatement option.
The noise analysis report suggests a 16-foot wall as the preferred height based on the number of homes which would benefit from a reduced noise level. In total, the report indicated at least 72 homes, in addition to the Chamberlin Hill Intermediate School, would receive a reduction in noise levels resulting from construction of a noise wall.
