Highway Construction
Week of September 4, 2017

(Note: Work will not occur over the Labor Day holiday)
 
The following is work scheduled to occur on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 which includes the counties of Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot. The schedule of work is dependent upon weather conditions and, unless otherwise noted, work will take place during daytime hours.

ALLEN COUNTY
 
U.S. 30 both eastbound and westbound from state Route 115 to the Putnam County line will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Allen County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 115 from state Route 65 to the Putnam County line will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work will begin after Labor Day. Work is being performed by Pavement Maintenance Systems, Imlay City, Mich.
 
State Route 696 resurfacing project is now complete.
 
State Route 117 in the village of Spencerville closed July 5 for approximately 60 days for a culvert replacement. The route is expected to reopen shortly following the Labor Day holiday. Traffic detoured onto state Route 66, state Route 197 and state Route 198 back to state Route 117. Work is being performed by VTF Excavation, Celina.
 
Interstate 75, and also Bentley Road and Napoleon Road will be affected during bridge deck replacements on Napoleon Road over Interstate 75, Beaverdam, and Bentley Road over Interstate 75, Bluffton. Work is being performed by Eagle Bridge, Sidney. The following are current impacts related to the project:
 
 
Napoleon Road
  • Napoleon Road bridge over I-75 closed May 22 and will remain closed until late fall.
    • Traffic detoured onto Sugar Creek Road, Swaney Road and Lincoln Highway (state Route 696) back to Napoleon Road.
  • The northbound exit ramp from Interstate 75 to Napoleon Road closed May 30 until late fall.
    • Traffic detoured north on Interstate 75, east on Lincoln Highway (state Route 696), south on Swaney Road and west on Sugar Creek Road back to Napoleon Road; or west onto Lincoln Highway (state Route 696) back to S. West Street in Beaverdam.
  • The entrance ramp to Interstate 75 southbound from Napoleon Road will remain open
  • Motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 75 wishing to access state Route 696 are advised to do so via exit 135 (state Route 696/U.S. 30) at Beaverdam. No access to state Route 696 from Interstate 75 northbound at the Napoleon Road exit will be available.
 
Bentley Road (exit 140)
·        Two bridges on Bentley Road at exit 140 (one over Interstate 75 and one over the railroad north of Interstate 75) closed June 5 until late fall.
·        Both the southbound entrance and exit ramps at Bentley Road also closed on June 5 until late October.
o   Interstate 75 northbound traffic will be detoured to the state Route 103 (exit 142) interchange back to Bentley Road.
o   Interstate 75 southbound traffic is advised to access Bentley Road via the state Route 103 interchange (exit 142) and follow state Route 103 through Bluffton back to Bentley Road.
·        The northbound ramps at the interchange remain open; however, left turns onto Bentley Road from northbound Interstate 75 are not permitted.
 
Interstate 75
·        Interstate 75 both northbound and southbound will be periodically reduced to one lane at times beneath both the Napoleon Road and Bentley Road bridge structures during certain operations related to construction.
·        Lane closures will occur sporadically and are expected to occur mostly during daytime hours but some nighttime closures may occur.
 
DEFIANCE COUNTY

State Route 18 west of Hicksville will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Defiance County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 15 from south of Defiance to the Putnam County line will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Defiance County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 15 from the Williams County line to the state Route 15/state Route 18 overlap, excluding the village of Ney, will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for installation of center line rumble stripes. The project will continue until mid September. Work is being performed by Gerken Paving, Napoleon.
 
State Route 18 between township Road 115 and Glenberg Road closed August 28 for culvert replacements at three locations: two located west of Sherwood, one east of Sherwood. Work is being performed by Vernon Nagel Construction, Napoleon. Closures will occur consecutively as follows:
·        Culvert #1, located between Cicero Road and Rosedale Road, closed August 28 for 25 days. Traffic detoured onto state Route 2, state Route 249 and U.S. 127 back to state Route 18.
·        Culvert #2, located between Openlander Road and Behnfeldt Road, will close for 25 days following completion of culvert #1. Traffic detoured onto state Route 2, state Route 249 and U.S. 127 back to state Route 18.
·        Culvert #3, located between Flickinger Road and Glenberg Road, will close for 30 days following completion of culvert #2. Traffic detoured onto U.S. 24 and U.S. 127 back to state Route 18. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D01/detours/Documents/DEF-18-6.07_12.69.pdf
 
U.S. 24 westbound at Baltimore Street, Defiance, is restricted to one lane through the work zone through early September for repair of the roadside slope. Work is being performed by Miller Brothers, Archbold. The following closure is related to the project:
·        The entrance ramp from Baltimore Street to westbound U.S. 24 closed July 10 for approximately 60 days. Traffic is detoured onto U.S. 24 eastbound to its interchange with state Route 15/state Route 18 back to U.S. 24 westbound. The ramp will remain closed for the duration of the project.
 
State Route 66 between Bowman and Watson roads, south of Defiance, closed June 5 for approximately three months for a bridge deck replacement. The route is expected to reopen prior to the Labor Day holiday. Traffic detoured onto state Route 613, state Route 634, state Route 15 and Carter Road back to state Route 66. Work is being performed by Vernon Nagel Inc., Napoleon.
 
HANCOCK COUNTY

Interstate 75 southbound both north and south of the village of Bluffton will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair, generally between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.
 
County Road 199 over Interstate 75 north of Findlay will be restricted to one lane in each direction during pavement repair. The Interstate 75 northbound exit ramp to County Road 199 will also be restricted but will remain open. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 613 in the village of McComb will close September 5 for approximately four days for a railroad crossing repair. Traffic detoured onto Todd Street/township Road 235, state Route 235, and state Route 186 back to state Route 613.
 
State Route 186/state Route 235 overlap, in the village of McComb, will close September 13 for approximately seven days for a railroad crossing repair. State Route 186 traffic detoured onto state Route 613, Todd Street/township Road 235, township Road 97/state Route 235 back to state Route 186. State Route 235 traffic detoured onto state Route 613, Todd Street/township Road 235 and township Road 97 back to state Route 235. Work is being performed by Roadsafe Traffic Systems.
 
Interstate 75 northbound just north of state Route 103, Bluffton, will have reduced-width lanes beginning September 11 for replacement of curb and guard rail. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained the majority of the time but some intermittent lane closures will occur during daytime and nighttime hours. Work is being performed by Eagle Bridge, Sidney.
 
Pavement repair will take place at the following locations with traffic maintained through the work zone. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage:
·        State Route 103 between the villages of Bluffton and Arlington
·        U.S. 68 within the village of Arlington
 
The following locations will be restricted to one lane through the work zone during installation of center line rumble stripes. Work will continue until mid September. Work is being performed by Gerken Paving, Napoleon:
·        U.S. 224 from state Route 235 to just west of Findlay
·        U.S. 224 from the east side of Findlay to the Seneca County line
·        State Route 12 from Findlay to Fostoria, excluding the village of Arcadia
 
State Route 235 from the Hardin County line to county Road 304 will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
 
State Route 12 just east of Benton Ridge closed July 17 for approximately 60 days for a bridge deck repair. Traffic is detoured onto state Route 235, U.S. 224 and Interstate 75 back to state Route 12. Work is being performed by Global Outdoor Solutions, Cleveland.
 
Resurfacing of the following routes within the city of Findlay will be completed late this summer in coordination with work being performed by the city of Findlay. Work is being performed by M&B Asphalt, Old Fort.
·        State Route 37 from Lincoln Avenue to Blanchard Avenue
·        State Route 568 from Main Street to Beech Avenue
 
U.S. 68 from the Findlay airport to Eagle Creek, south of Findlay, will have daily lane closures in both directions for installation of cable barrier in the median which began August 12. The project is expected to be completed in October. The project also includes the installation of overhead lighting and the removal of the caution flasher at Western Avenue. Work is being performed by Lake Erie Construction, Norwalk.
 
U.S. 224 just west of state Route 235 is now open following a culvert replacement.
 
HARDIN COUNTY
 
State Route 117 just south of Roundhead will close in the third week of September for 21 days for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be detoured onto state Route 235 and U.S. 33 back to state Route 117. Work is being performed by VTF, Celina.
 
Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing at the following locations. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton:
·        U.S. 68 in the village of Dunkirk from the south corporation limit to Washington Street (this portion of the project is expected to begin in approximately two weeks).
·        State Route 235 from the south corporation limit of Alger to state Route 309
·        State Route 235 from the north corporation limit of Ada to the Hancock County line
 
State Route 81 at township Road 55 east of Ada will be reduced to one lane through the work zone during a drainage tile repair project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hardin County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 31 between township Road 265 and state Route 273, north of Mount Victory, is restricted to one lane through the work zone during bridge repair work which began August 14. Work is being performed by Crossroads Construction, Cambridge.
 
Traffic will be affected by the project as follows:
·        The project will occur on a bridge over Painter Creek just south of township Road 206, and a bridge over Wolf Creek north of township Road 265.
·        Work will affect only one bridge at a time. Traffic will be initially maintained with flaggers.
·        Work is under way on the structure over Painter Creek and will continue throughout the week. Beginning the week of September 11, the crew will then move to the Wolf Creek structure for approximately two weeks.
·        Work is occurring from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day
·        No lane restrictions will occur during nighttime hours or weekends.
·        Signage in advance of the project advises motorists to slow their speed when approaching the work zone.
·        In early October, state Route 31 will close and traffic will be detoured for 14 days. Traffic will be detoured onto state Route 292 and state Route 273 back to state Route 31.
·        Project will complete in late fall.
 
 
PAULDING COUNTY
 
State Route 114 between the Indiana line and state Route 49 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Paulding County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 637 just south of state Route 613 closed August 30 for approximately one week for a railroad repair. Traffic detoured onto U.S. 224, U.S. 127 and state Route 613 back to state Route 637. State Route 49 in the village of Antwerp closed August 21 for a railroad repair. The route is expected to reopen prior to the Labor Day holiday. Traffic detoured onto U.S. 24, U.S. 127 and county Road 424 back to state Route 49. State Route 114 between state Route 49 and the village of Haviland is now open following a culvert replacement.
 
State Route 637 in the village of Grover Hill closed June 5 for three months for road reconstruction. Traffic detoured onto U.S. 224, U.S. 127 and state Route 613 back to state Route 637. Work is being performed by Brenneman Excavating Inc. for the village of Grover Hill.
 
PUTNAM COUNTY
 
State Route 12 between state Route 115 and township Road 14S, Vaughnsville, is now open following a culvert replacement.
 
State Route 613 in the village of West Leipsic is now open following a railroad repair.
 
U.S. 224 in the village of Ottawa is now open following a railroad repair.
 
VAN WERT COUNTY
 
State Route 81 east of U.S. 127 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for placement of berm stone. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 118 from the Mercer County line to the city of Van Wert will be restricted at times to one lane through the work zone for drainage repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
 
The following routes and locations will be restricted at times to one lane through the work zone until fall for resurfacing. Work is being performed by Shelly Co., Findlay:
·        U.S. 33 from the Indiana state line to the Mercer County line
·        State Route 49 from the Mercer County line to the U.S. 33 overlap
·        State Route 81 from the Indiana state line to U.S. 33
 
U.S. 30, both eastbound and westbound, is restricted to one lane through the work zone at the following locations for projects which will repair the pavement and joints, improve drainage and resurface the route. The project will complete in October. Work is being performed by Shelly Company, Findlay:
·        From just east of township Road 127 to just east of county Road 185
·        From U.S. 224 to near the Indiana state line
o   The ramps at the U.S. 224 interchange with U.S. 30 will be affected by the project as follows:
§  The exit ramp from westbound U.S. 30 to U.S. 224 and the entrance ramp from U.S. 224 to westbound U.S. 30 will close concurrently for 21 days beginning September 21.
§  The ramps on the south side of the interchange will remain open.
§  All ramps at the interchange will be resurfaced.
·        Nighttime paving will begin September 6 with traffic reduced to one lane through the work zone.
·        The project also includes repair and resurfacing of the entrances and exits at both the eastbound and westbound rest areas on U.S. 30 west of Van Wert. Both parks will close in September for 10 days while the repair work is occurring.
·        The project will also upgrade the truck weigh station which involves repair and resurfacing of the entrance and exit, parking lot and sidewalk. The station will close September 21 for approximately 14 days during the repair work.

WYANDOT COUNTY
 
U.S. 23 and state Route 15 near their interchange with state Route 103, south of Carey, is reduced to one lane in each direction for work related to the removal of two bridge structures over abandoned railroads. Work is being performed by Miller Brothers Construction Inc., Archbold. The following are traffic impacts related to the project:
  • The project also includes the upcoming resurfacing of U.S. 23 from just north of county Highway 97 to the state Route 103 interchange and of the ramps at state Route 103.
State Route 53 between state Route 103 and county Road 2, McCutchenville, closed April 24 for approximately six months for bridge replacements over Thorn Run and Tymochtee Creek. Traffic detoured onto state Route 103, state Route 231 and U.S. 224 back to state Route 53.
