Highway Construction
Week of April 23, 2018
 
The following is work scheduled to occur on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1, which includes the counties of Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot. The schedule of work is dependent upon weather conditions, and unless otherwise noted, work will take place during daytime hours.

ALLEN COUNTY
 
Interstate 75 between Bentley Road and state Route 103 will be restricted to one lane at times for a bridge repair project which is expected to begin the week of April 23. Work will occur on I-75 over Riley Creek in Allen County and on the County Road 15 bridge over Interstate 75 in Hancock County. The project is expected to be completed in late September. Work on the project being performed by Miller Brothers Construction, Archbold.
 
The project will have the following anticipated impacts to traffic:
·        Traffic on I-75 both northbound and southbound will be restricted to one lane in the area approaching Riley Creek to prepare the shoulder for a traffic shift which will occur within approximately two weeks.
·        County Road 15 over Interstate 75 will be closed in late summer for approximately 30 days.
·        Variable speed limits are now in place through the work zone. Electronic messages boards display the posted, legal speed limit, which will be reduced during construction operations and presence of workers in the area. The posted speed on the electronic boards is enforceable by law.
 
Interstate 75 northbound at two locations, one just south of Beaverdam and one just north of Beaverdam, will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for bridge deck repair. The restrictions will be in place from approximately 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., tentatively on Monday and Tuesday of the week. Work is being performed by the ODOT roadway services department with traffic control by the ODOT Allen County maintenance garage.
     
U.S. 30, both eastbound and westbound, between Beaverdam and the Hancock County line will be reduced to one lane through the work zone during berm repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Allen County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 103 (Jefferson Street) between Vance Street and Huber Street, Bluffton, closed April 16 for approximately five days for railroad repair. Traffic is detoured onto Main Street and County Line Road back to state Route 103. Work is being performed by Norfolk and Southern Railroad.
 
State Route 65 between Grand Avenue and state Route 115, and State Route 81 from Wapak Road to Eastown Road, Lima, is reduced to one lane through the work zone at various locations for work related to a roadway rehabilitation project. Work is being performed by the Shelly Company, Findlay.
 
The project currently entails the following impacts to traffic.
·        Installation of sidewalks and curb ramps along state Route 65 and state Route 81 began April 16. Traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone.
·        Drainage work on state Route 65 continues.
 
DEFIANCE COUNTY
 
There are no projects scheduled in Defiance County that are anticipated to significantly affect highway traffic during the week.
 
HANCOCK COUNTY

Interstate 75
southbound between state Route 235 and the Allen County line will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement crack sealing throughout the week. Work is being performed by the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage.
Interstate 75 between Bentley Road and state Route 103 will be restricted to one lane at times for a bridge repair project which is expected to begin the week of April 23. Work will occur on I-75 over Riley Creek in Allen County and on the county Road 15 bridge over Interstate 75 in Hancock County. The project is expected to be completed in late September. U.S. 224
between township Road 276 and county Road 23 in West Independence will close May 7 for approximately 45 days for a bridge overlay project. The project also includes the replacement of approach slabs on the bridge, the addition of curtain walls and upgrades to guardrail. Traffic will be detoured onto state Route 12 and U.S. 23 back onto U.S. 224. Work is being performed by Vernon Nagel, Inc., Napoleon. (see map)
State Route 698 between state Route 103 and county Road 24 in the village of Jenera will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for a repaving project that will resume April 30. Work is being performed by M&B Asphalt, Tiffin.
State Route 103 between township Road 70 and township Road 177 in the village of Arlington will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for a repaving project that will resume April 30. Work is being performed by M&B Asphalt, Tiffin.
State Route 37 between the Findlay city limit and county Road 172 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for a repaving project beginning April 30. Work is being performed by M&B Asphalt, Tiffin.
HARDIN COUNTY
State Route 53, just south of Patterson, closed April 2 for approximately 90 days for a bridge deck replacement. Traffic is detoured onto state Route 31, U.S. 68 and state Route 81 back onto state Route 53. Work is being performed by Eagle Bridge Company, Sidney. (see map)
 
PAULDING COUNTY
 
U.S. 30 between the Indiana state line and state Route 49 north is restricted to one lane in both directions through the work zone for a rehabilitation project which includes resurfacing and concrete joint repair. Work will continue through summer. Work is being performed by the Shelly Company, Findlay.
 
State Route 637 between Road 118 and Road 138, northwest of Melrose, closed April 18 for approximately 75 days for ditch relocation. The project also includes the relocation of a 72-inch pipe beneath county Road 126 to match the flow of the new ditch. Traffic will be detoured onto state Route 613 and state Route 66 back onto state Route 637. Work is being performed by VTF Excavation, Celina. (see map)
 
County Road 11 under U.S. 24, just east of the Indiana state line, will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for the repair of a retaining wall. Flaggers will maintain traffic. Work is being performed by Vernon Nagel, Inc., Napoleon.
 
PUTNAM COUNTY
 
State Route 66 between county Road R and township Road R-23, south of Ottoville, closed April 16 for the replacement of two culverts. The project is now scheduled to last until Wednesday, April 25. Traffic is detoured onto U.S. 224, state Route 189 and state Route 190 back onto state Route 66. Work is being performed by the ODOT Putnam County maintenance garage. (see map)
 
 
VAN WERT COUNTY
 
State Route 66 over U.S. 30, northwest of Delphos, will close April 30 for 21 days for bridge repair. Westbound traffic detoured to U.S. 30 to Middle Point Wetzel Road back to state Route 66. Eastbound traffic detoured onto U.S. 30 to Lincoln highway back to state Route 66. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
 
U.S. 30 between the Indiana state line and state Route 49 north will be restricted to one lane in both directions through the work zone for a rehabilitation project that will include resurfacing and concrete joint repair of U.S. 30. Work is being performed by the Shelly Company, Findlay.
 
U.S. 30 will be restricted to one lane in both directions through the work zone for minor pavement smoothing in the following locations. Work will last approximately one week. Work will be performed by the Shelly Company, Findlay.
  • Between the Indiana state line and U.S. 224, north of Convoy
  • Between Lincoln Highway and Middle Point Wetzel Road, north of Middle Point
 
U.S. 30 between the Indiana state line and the Allen County line will be restricted to one lane in both directions through temporary work zones for bridge sweeping. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
 
U.S. 127 from the southern Van Wert city limit to the Mercer County line will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for sealing of pavement cracks. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
 
State Route 697 just west of the city of Delphos will close April 23 for approximately two days for a railroad repair. Traffic detoured onto state Route 116, state Route 81 and state Route 66 back to state Route 697. Work is being performed by the Chicago, Ft. Wayne and Eastern Railroad.

Van Wert-Decatur Road between U.S. 224 and Shannon Street, just west of Van Wert, will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement milling and resurfacing. Work will begin April 25 and will continue for approximately three weeks. Work is being performed by the Shelly Company, Findlay.
 
Berm repair will restrict traffic to one lane in various locations along the following routes throughout the eastern and northern parts of Van Wert County.
  • State Route 66
  • State Route 116
  • State Route 697
  • U.S. 127
  • U.S. 224      
 
WYANDOT COUNTY

U.S. 23 near the state Route 199 interchange, south of Upper Sandusky, will be reduced to one lane both northbound and southbound throughout the week for pavement repair. Work is being performed by the ODOT Wyandot County maintenance garage.
U.S. 30 between county Road 81 and state Route 293/county Road 95, just east of the Hancock County line, will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repairs. Work is being performed by the ODOT Wyandot County maintenance garage.
State Route 53 over U.S. 23/U.S. 30 and U.S. 23/U.S. 30 under State Route 53, north of Upper Sandusky, will be affected by a bridge repair project. Work is being performed by R&I Construction, Tiffin.
The project will have the following anticipated impacts to traffic:
·        State Route 53 over U.S. 23/U.S. 30 will be restricted to one lane during project preparations. It will then close May 7 for approximately 60 days for bridge repair.
·        Lane restrictions in both directions of U.S. 23/U.S. 30 below state Route 53 will begin the week of April 30 and continue throughout the duration of the project.
·        The exit and entrance ramps at the interchange of state Route 53 and U.S. 23/U.S. 30 will remain open.
·        State Route 53 southbound traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 23/U.S. 30 westbound, state Route 199 and U.S. 23/U.S. 30 eastbound back onto state Route 53.
·        State Route 53 northbound traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 23/U.S. 30 eastbound, county Road 330 and U.S. 23/U.S. 30 back onto state Route 53.
 
State Route 53 over Oak Run, just east of township Road 97 between the village of Kirby and the city of Upper Sandusky, closed Feb. 26 for approximately 60 days for a bridge deck replacement. Traffic is detoured onto state Route 37, state Route 294 and state Route 67 back to state Route 53. Work will be performed by R & I Construction, Tiffin. (see map)
State Route 103 between the Hancock County line and its interchange with U.S. 23/state Route 15 will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repairs. Flaggers will maintain traffic. Work is being performed by the ODOT Wyandot County maintenance garage.
