Public Meeting to be Held Regarding I-75 Improvements

LIMA – The Ohio Department of Transportation District One will conduct a public meeting to discuss possible alternatives for improving Interstate 75 from the Auglaize County line to Ohio 81 through Allen County.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, May 6 at the UAW/Ford/Rhodes State Training Center, 1155 Bible Road, Lima.

A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a question and answer session. ODOT officials and representatives of its engineering consultant will be available both before and following the meeting.

“The purpose of the meeting is to receive comment on the possible alternatives and a recommended alternative which are currently being considered for improving I-75 through Allen County”, said Tim Burkepile, Ohio Department of Transportation District One deputy director. The project is currently scheduled for construction in 2013.

The alternatives provide for the reconstruction of the pavement and bridges on I-75 between the Auglaize County line and Ohio 81. Interchanges at Breese Road, Ohio 65, Fourth Street, Ohio 117/309 and Ohio 81 will be reconstructed in their existing locations. Additional features include upgrading the route to current design standards by increasing shoulder and overpass widths, upgrading interchange ramps, flattening curves and increasing overpass clearances.

The public will be asked to comment on the recommended mainline alternatives as well as the proposed interchange options.

Comments received at the meeting will help project planners determine which alternative will be carried further into the development phase. Displays of the possible alternatives and the proposed interchange reconstruction options will be available for viewing both before and following the formal presentation. This meeting is in compliance with Title VI, Section 601 of 41 USC 2000(d) which states that "[n]o person in the United States shall be excluded from participation in or otherwise discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, or national origin under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." Other related statutes also include disability, sex and age as protected classes.

Any person who believes that he or she has been denied benefits of, excluded from participating in or otherwise discriminated against may file a formal complaint in writing to the Ohio Department of Transportation, Division of Chief Legal Counsel, Office of Civil Rights, 1980 W. Broad Street, 1st Floor, Columbus, OH 43223. All complaints must be filed within 180 days after the date of the alleged act of discrimination.
