Winter Operations Update
 
The following is an update regarding snow and ice operations on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 which includes the counties of Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot. This report is issued periodically during the winter months and as necessary during snow and ice events.

Additional facts:
 
-Total amount of salt on hand throughout the eight-county region of ODOT District 1 is currently 5,789.04 tons.
 
-To date 62,342.95 tons of salt have been used and $8.7 million has been spent on snow and ice control in District 1.
 
-At this same point in the season last year 43,431 tons of salt had been used and $4.4 million had been spent on snow and ice control in District 1.
 
-The worst winter in recent memory in terms of cost was the winter of 2010-2011 which totaled $5.58 million for snow and ice control costs.
 
-The mildest winter in recent memory in terms of cost was the winter of 2005-2006 which totaled $2.5 million.
 
- Over the past 10 years, the average cost per year for snow and ice control operations is $4.1 million.
