The project will replace the Waterville Bridge over the Maumee River in Lucas and Wood counties with a wider bridge that includes a 12' shared use path and a 7' sidewalk, install a roundabout at the SR 64/65 intersection in Wood County, add dedicated left turn lanes at
SR 64/Mechanic Street and River Road intersection, and perform necessary related work.
The decision to build the new bridge south/upstream of the existing structure was based upon multiple factors including environmental and historical considerations, cost, public opinion and length of closure (estimated closure of 45 days). The project was sold for $13 million to Miller Brothers Construction, Inc.
The Waterville bridge, SR 64/65 intersection, and Mechanic St/River Rd intersection opened to traffic Thursday, August 2.
