Auburn Avenue Bridge Scheduled to Open

Construction will soon begin on the Interstate 475 Interchange Upgrade Project

BOWLING GREEN (Thursday, July 1, 2010) –The Ohio Department of Transportation District Two announces today that the Auburn Avenue Bridge will open to traffic and pedestrians at 6pm tonight.  The opening of the bridge completes major work on the $17 million three bridges project, which includes the replacement of bridges on Central Avenue, Douglas Road and Auburn Avenue.  Construction began on the Central Avenue Bridge in August 2008.

The replacement of three bridges has prepared the Interstate 75/475 corridor for future widening projects. In late July, ODOT is scheduled to begin construction of the $63 million Interstate 475 Interchange Upgrade Project.

This project will widen Interstate 475 to six lanes between Rushland Avenue and Interstate 75, upgrade the first phase of the Interstate 75/475 interchange and build a new interchange at Promedica Parkway.

“With major work finished on the three bridge project, it opens the door to start work on the improvements the I-75/475 Interchange,” said ODOT District Two Deputy Director David Dysard. “Investments like this project help to ignite the state’s economic engine by creating jobs and modernizing our aging infrastructure.”

In fiscal year 2010 The Ohio Department of Transportation has accomplished a historic goal of investing $2 billion into Ohio’s multi-modal transportation system, with major transportation projects in every region of the state, including the $63 million investment from the Interstate 475 Interchange Upgrade project in Northwest Ohio.
