Henry County Safety Improvement Projects
Two safety project applications awarded safety funds
BOWLING GREEN-Last week, two safety improvement projects in Henry County were awarded safety funding.
The Safety Program Committee reviewed applications and the following applications were approved funding based on a variety of criteria including statewide/local priority, countermeasures identified and available funding.
Decision-making is always difficult for the Safety Program Committee. ODOT districts and local governments submitted 36 projects worth more than $94.5 million this round.
State Route 108
A project to convert the ramp intersection at State Route 108 and westbound US Route 24 to a modern roundabout and install sidewalks. With a 10% local match, this approximately $4 million project is expected to begin in 2021.
US Route 24
A project to convert the at-grade intersection of US 24 at County Road 17D to a diamond interchange. This will also eliminate left-turns at four at-grade intersections along the corridor: Banner School Road, CR 17, TR 16 and CR P. With a $2 million local contribution, this approximately $11 million project is expected to begin in 2022.
For safety, ODOT crews, with the support of the Henry County Commissioners, will close the US 24 median at CR P beginning Monday, July 15. This will permanently close the median and make US 24 at CR P a right in, right out intersection. During the two-week process of removing old pavement, installing signage and planting grass, CR P at US 24 will be closed. US 24 will remain open with lane restrictions. Following this work, US 24 at CR P will be right turns only.
Ohio has 121,000 miles of road – one of the largest roadway networks in the nation.
ODOT's Highway Safety program helps fund projects that improve safety for drivers, riders, bicyclists, and pedestrians not only on ODOT-maintained roadways, but roads maintained by local governments as well.
