Major Interstate Traffic Pattern Changes coming to the Sylvania Area
BOWLING GREEN (Thursday, December 03, 2015) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will soon reach a major milestone on two large projects in the Sylvania area. The Interstate 475/ U.S. Route 23 interchange will be placed in its final traffic pattern at the same time the Central Avenue interchange project moves into the next major phase of work.
During the week of December 6 - 12, expect considerable changes in traffic patterns at both the I-475/US 23 and I-475/Central Avenue interchanges. Lane and ramp restrictions will take place over the period of four evenings. These restrictions will be overnight to reduce the impact to traffic. Details on the schedule of work will be announced and is weather dependent.
Interstate 475/U.S. Route 23 Interchange
Next week, ODOT will open the new traffic pattern at the I-475/US 23 interchange. The changes in this area will include:
1. Opening the southbound US 23 movement to Central Avenue
2. Elimination of the traffic weave from westbound I-475 to Central Avenue by creating a separate ramp for Central Avenue from both southbound US 23 and westbound I-475
Central Avenue Interstate 475 Interchange Upgrade Project
Next week, ODOT will also enter the next phase of work on the Interstate 475/Central Avenue interchange project. In order to build the new Central Avenue bridge and ramps, ODOT will move traffic to temporary on and off ramps at the Interstate 475 exit and entrance ramps to Central Avenue. The temporary ramps will have a different geometric curve requiring slower speeds but meet state and federal standards. Once traffic is switched next week drivers will need to remember:
1. Slow down: Speed limits will be reduced to 25mph on the ramps.
2. This configuration is temporary during the project. Traffic is expected to remain on the ramps through the fall of 2016.
