Northbound Interstate 75 Rerouting Approved
BOWLING GREEN (Friday, April 15, 2016) - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announces the rerouting of northbound I-75 traffic to I-280 and Central Avenue. The rerouting will enable the safe construction of two of bridges located on northbound I-75, while keeping the I-75/I-280 interchange and widening project on schedule for completion in 2017.
The two-mile movement will divert northbound I-75 traffic to southbound I-280. Northbound I-75 traffic will exit onto temporary ramps at Central Avenue, and then back northbound I-280 to return to northbound I-75.
A minimum of two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the rerouting including the ramps to/from northbound I-75 to I-280, and the temporary ramps to/from Central Avenue to/from I-280.
While traffic is rerouted, the Central Avenue bridge over I-280 will be closed to local traffic to allow for continuous movement of I-75 traffic over the Central Avenue bridge. Local traffic will be detoured to Lagrange Street to Greenbelt Parkway to Galena Street. The Central Avenue bridge over I-280 will remain open to pedestrians.
The reroute is required because of constructability issues related to soil conditions. ODOT determined the reroute would have the least amount of impact to traffic and minimize substantial delays in the project.
Effective Monday, April 18, through May, work will begin on the temporary ramps to/from I-280 to/from Central Avenue. This work will not impact traffic. Additional restrictions will be announced. The northbound I-75 rerouting is expected to begin in May and continue through December. All work is weather permitting.
