Pettisville Safe Routes to School Project
BOWLING GREEN (Sunday, June 1, 2014) - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two announces that construction of the Pettisville Safe Routes to School Project, originally scheduled to begin work on Monday, June 2, has been postponed until Monday, June 9, 2014.
Over the next week, ODOT, the designer and contractor will continue to review plans and work with community members along the project to see how many trees can be saved in the residential neighborhood near Pettisville Elementary School.
Current plans include the removal of over 40 trees to install sidewalks and improve crosswalks surrounding Pettisville Elementary as part of the Safe Routes to School program. 31 trees will be replanted as part of this project.
Safe Routes to Schools is part of a nationwide effort to:
- Improve overall safety on school routes
- Encourage Ohio’s school children to bike or walk to school
- Remind all travelers to drive safely in school zones
- Support more school awareness and planning around safety
