Safety Upgrades on U.S. Route 20A & Eber Road

BOWLING GREEN (Monday, July 30, 2012) The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two announces new safety upgrades at the intersection of U.S. Route 20A and Eber Road in Lucas County.

On Tuesday, July 31, ODOT will add signs on U.S. Route 20A, making the intersection at Eber Road a four way stop.  Message boards are posted along U.S. Route 20A to alert drivers of this change.  Motorists are advised to use caution in this area as this new traffic pattern is established.

The improvements are a direct result of a recent safety study conducted by ODOT at the intersection of U.S. Route 20A and Eber Road.   The study revealed that between 2006-2010, there was a total of 40 crashes, 25 of which were angle crashes.
ODOT is also in the planning stages of a long-term countermeasure: adding a roundabout at the intersection to improve flow of traffic and safety.

Roundabouts are circular intersections that reduce traffic conflicts, such as left turns, that are frequent causes of crashes at traditional intersections. A roundabout's incoming traffic yields to the circulating traffic.

ODOT is in the early stages of the design for the roundabout and construction is slated for 2015.
