Stone Arch Maintenance at Meyerholtz Water Access/Wildlife Area in Henry County
BOWLING GREEN (Friday, September 23, 2011) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District Two announces the following opportunity for public comment on the proposed stone arch maintenance project at the Meyerholtz Water Access/Wildlife Area on State Route 424.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) proposes to perform minor repairs and remove embedded vegetation on the outlet headwall and wingwalls of a stone arch located under State Route 424 and on Ohio Department of Natural Resources Meyerholtz Water Access/Wildlife Area property. To perform this work, and to maintain this drainage facility in the future, a 0.047 acre of permanent highway easement will be acquired.
The recreational components, including water access, fishing, shelter, restroom, hiking/biking trails and benches of the Meyerholtz Water Access/Wildlife Area, are afforded protection under Section 4(f). Due to the scope of the proposed undertaking and the presence of Section 4(f) property, measures to minimize harm have been developed by the Federal Highway Administration that create a minimum impact on features, attributes, or activities on the property. The proposed project is scheduled to begin work during the fall of 2012 or in 2013.
Opportunity for Public Comment:
Due to the permanent highway easement being acquired for work on a stone arch on Meyerholtz Water Access/Wildlife Area property and that the parcel has unrestricted public recreational access, it is subject to the requirement of 23 CFR 774, Section 4(f). In order to proceed forward with maintenance and repair activities, ODOT must first be in compliance with this requirement. ODOT is posting the project information to obtain public input regarding this proposed work.
