U.S. 24 PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED

Bowling Green -- Ohio Department of Transportation District Deputy Director Richard Martinko today reminded the public about the dates of the next round of public meetings for the U.S. 24 study. The purpose of this meeting is to share with the public the results of the evaluation of the 22 feasible alternatives and to solicit feedback from the public.

The public meeting dates and times are as follows:

  • Tuesday, September 18, 2001, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Anthony Wayne High School, New Gymnasium
    5967 Finzel Rd., Whitehouse, Ohio

  • Wednesday, September 19, 2001, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    Liberty Center High School
103 W. Young Street, Liberty Center, Ohio

"After we analyzed the impacts, reviewed public input, and completed our evaluation, many of the alternatives were dropped from consideration," stated Deputy Director Martinko. "However, in some sections several alternatives remain viable, and ODOT is seeking additional public input to assist in the identification of the preferred alternative." In response to the PDEIS document that was distributed, only two of six resource agencies that have an important role in the Federal and State permitting processes have responded with formal comments. "Along with the agency comments, we are interested in receiving the public's response to those alternatives that are still being considered at this point. We understand the importance of this decision to the community, and we want our decision to benefit from as much input as possible before making a preferred alternative decision," stated Deputy Director Martinko.

The public may attend either meeting. A presentation to explain the evaluation and results will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. both nights. ODOT representatives and consultants will be available to answer questions and take comments before and after the presentation. Maps and details on the analysis will be available for review.
