About the Name, Veterans' Glass City Skyway!

One of the most frequently asked questions about the bridge is if its name has been officially decided. Many people took part in the community-wide initiative in 2001 to solicit name suggestions.

After reviewing more than 1,000 possibilities, the Naming Sub-Committee of the Task Force submitted two options to state legislators: “Veterans’ Memorial Bridge” and “Glass City Skyway”.

In the fall of 2003 State Representative Lynn Olman (R., Maumee) introduced a bill featuring a name that blended the two front-running suggestions. In December 2004, the name was approved by the state legislature and in February 2005 the bill received Governor Bob Taft’s signature.
           
So it is indeed official. The new I-280 bridge over the Maumee River is called the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway!
