Safer Travel on I-71 South From Cleveland to Columbus

Just in time for Thanksgiving travel

Delaware (November 22, 2013) –  If over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house you go, includes Interstate 71 south for Thanksgiving this year, here’s another reason to give thanks. An additional lane will make travel on I-71 south safer and more efficient.
There will now be three lanes for I-71 south from Cleveland to Columbus, except for a small section.  Four miles of I-71 south will still be two lanes just south of SR 95 in Morrow County.
ODOT decided to open the third lane for the majority of I-71 south to ease congestion especially during the holidays.
The first of three projects to widen 25 miles of I-71 in Delaware and Morrow Counties was completed earlier this year between SR 95 and the Richland County Line. That section is three lanes on I-71 both north and south.
Work on the $102 million widening project between US 36 in Delaware County and State Route 95 in Morrow County is at the half way point. While most of southbound is three lanes, all of northbound I-71 is still two lanes. The third lane for northbound I-71 won’t be complete until next year.
