MEDINA COUNTY (Wednesday, November 30, 2019) This is an ODOT-let project
located along US Route 42, approximately 0.6 miles south of US Route 224 in
Harrisville Township, Medina County, Ohio.
The existing structure consists of a deficient concrete continuous
slab, 3-span structure, which is approximately 80' in length. The entire bridge
(superstructure, piers and abutments) will be removed and replaced with a 70'
single span pre-stressed concrete I-beam with composite reinforced concrete
deck on integral abutments.
There is no suitable wooded habitat with roosting habitat for
federally listed bat species located within the project study area. ODOT will
obtain a waterway permit for permanent impacts associated with the placement of
rock channel protection along the stream banks of Clear Creek, a tributary to
the West Fork of the East Branch Black River and from temporary impact
associated with demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new
will not require the permanent taking of right-of-way from adjacent parcels and
utilities will not be relocated because of the project. However, deep
excavation will be required for the proposed work. In accordance with the ODOT
Office of Environmental Services' (OES) Regulated Materials Review (RMR)
Screening, there are no regulated materials located on adjacent parcels. The
land use on all adjacent parcels is considered undeveloped and forested. Based
on this information, the project is considered exempt from further RMR
On September 27, 2019,
district environmental staff accessed the SHPO GIS database, and in accordance
with Appendix A of the Section 106 PA executed November 8, 2017, the project
will not impact historic properties or historic districts.
The Department has initiated contact with emergency and other
public services and will continue to coordinate with these services throughout
construction. Because of the nature of construction, the road will be
closed, and a detour will be utilized. The detour will be for 60 days in
duration. The detour route for US 42 southbound traffic is US 224 westbound to
SR 301 southbound to US 42. The US 42 northbound traffic is the reverse. Access
will be maintained to Crawford Road, SR 421 and US 224. The detour route for SR
162 westbound traffic is the reverse. The construction start date is anticipated
to be in April 2021.
