Charles Berry Bascule Bridge
LOR-6-9.67, PID 77464, ODOT Project 113(08)

The bascule bridge carries four lanes of U.S. Route 6 (Erie Avenue) traffic over the Black River at the City of Lorain's port to Lake Erie. It opened to traffic in 1940, andĀ carries an average of 14,720 vehicles per day, according to a 2005 traffic count. In April 2008, work as part of this project began, and the bridge was closed in June. ODOT and its contractor continue to work to install necessary parts and plan to have the bridge safely operational and open in November.

On this page, you can learn more about ODOT's current repair and maintenance project by viewing the Fact Sheet or recent presentation forĀ members of the Lorain Community. Also take a moment to read up on bridge terms and definitions.
