The Transportation Planning's Bridge Department ensures safe, reliable bridges within District 3. The Bridge department is responsible for yearly inspections and an up-to-date bridge inventory.

ODOT has an aggressive bridge inspection program and devotes a significant amount of its annual budget to bridge preservation. Federal regulations require that every bridge be inspected once every two years; however, Ohio's law requires all bridges to be inspected on an annual basis. This applies to the Department's bridges as well as city and county bridges. Ohio has over 42,000 bridges, the second largest in the country. ODOT is responsible for 14,891 bridges on the state highway system.

  • Bridging the Gap
    Ohio joins the rest of the nation in marking the one year anniversary of the tragic I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under Governor Ted Strickland, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues to invest significant state resources to protecting, preserving and modernizing the more than 42,000 bridges in this state.
