Following the closure of the SR 14 bridge over Lake Rockwell in the City of Streetsboro last night, the Ohio Department of Transportation is pursuing an emergency contract this afternoon to begin work on replacing the 162 foot long structure that carries approximately 15,000 vehicles between the cities of Streetsboro and Ravenna on a daily basis. The emergency contract will allow ODOT to begin work tomorrow to replace the bridge.
Monday evening, ODOT was notified by a contractor working on an adjacent project that the bridge over Lake Rockwell appeared to be settling. A team was called out within hours and the bridge was immediately closed. ODOT engineers performed an inspection this morning and confirmed that the bridge should remain closed and that a new structure should be built. The detour during the closure will be SR 303 to SR 44.
