Muskingum 60 Safety Project
A public meeting was held for the Phase II of the Muskingum State Route 60 Safety Project at Secrest Auditorium (334 Shinnick Street) from 4PM-6PM on May 6, 2010. The meeting showed the conceptual design for the Brown/Dresden Road/Maple Avenue area and the three alternatives for Bethesda/Balls Lane/Maple Avenue that were presented to the stakeholders on April 13, 2010. Public comments were due May 6, 2010.
City of Zanesville personnel and ODOT staff was available to answer questions.
After the review and consideration of the environmental impacts, public input, costs, engineering, as well as the impact to the adjacent properties, ODOT District 5 in conjunction with the city of Zanesville is moving forward with 1.5 as the preferred alternative for the Genesis-Bethesda-Balls Lane- Maple Avenue area. Included in this option is the closure of the existing access point of Balls Lane at Maple Avenue.
Dresden Road relocation has been modified slightly to accommodate the aesthetic and property access concerns raised during the public involvement process. The city of Zanesville is also investigating the possibility of making McConnell Avenue one way east which will accommodate additional parking.
Detailed plans are now being designed and the estimated construction date for this safety project to begin is May 1, 2012.
ODOT's primary concern is the safety of the traveling public. This safety project will mitigate the congestion related crashes and provide improved traffic flow.
