Licking County  – American Recovery and Reinvestment Act UPDATE
State Route 16/79 Improvement Project

Jacksontown (Sunday, July 18, 2010) – The Ohio Department of Transportation District 5, Deputy Director Karl D. Newman announced  the second  phase of the State Route 16/79 Improvement Project began Wednesday, July 14, 2010. The first phase which began in May is complete and phase two began by switching traffic from the driving lane to the passing lane.  State Route16 will remain restricted during this phase.

As part of phase two construction, Buena Vista Street will be closed from 8AM- 3PM for demolition work on the overhead bridge beginning Monday, July 19, 2010 and is expected to re-open  Friday, July 30, 2010, weather permitting.

Detoured traffic is advised to use alternative routes such as,  State Route 13, North Front Street, Cedar Street or Oakwood Avenue
The $6,491,243 stimulus-funded State Route 16/79 Improvement Project includes pavement improvements and bridge work on SR 16 from Dayton Road to 21st Street in the city of Newark to State Route 79 near Meritor Drive in the city of Heath. The entire project is scheduled for completion September 30, 2010.
The third phase will be the pavement improvements from Dayton Road to Meritor Drive.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s transportation stimulus funds totaling $774 million will be spent in nearly every Ohio county. Based on federal calculations for transportation investment, an estimated 21, 257 jobs will be created or retained through these stimulus projects, with thousands of additional jobs likely to be spurred by the economic development that will occur as a result of the projects.
