Route 83 bridge in New Concord to close
for remainder of construction
Jacksontown, Ohio (Thursday,
April 24, 2014) – The SR 83 bridge
currently under construction in New Concord, just south of US Route 22 in
Muskingum County, will close completely at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 25, and
remain closed until the project is complete in October 2014.
Working with local
officials, the Ohio Department of Transportation attempted to maintain
southbound traffic out of New Concord and close the bridge to northbound
traffic only. However, after numerous occurrences of northbound drivers disregarding
the closure, ODOT must close the bridge to all traffic in the interest of
safety for construction workers as well as the travelling public.
Traffic will be detoured
on US 22 west to I-70 east, back to SR 83. Alternatively, drives can follow US
22 east to SR 723 south, to I-70 west. Reverse
routes will apply to northbound traffic.
Double Z Construction is
ODOT’s contractor for this $1.2 million project and the completion date is
